76.4 miles of the AT is in Georgia. The North Georgia mountains are nothing like the rest of Georgia. The mountains are substantial, the highest peak is taller than 3 1/2 Empire State Buildings. The southern terminus at Springer Mountain (elevation 3,780 ft). An 8.8-mile approach trail (not part of the AT) begins at the Amicalola Falls State Park visitor center. At 4,458 feet, Blood Mountain is the highest point on the trail in Georgia.
A huge thanks to: Charles and his wife for everything, I cant thank you two enough, everyone who hung out around the fire with me prior to flying out of Illinois, my mom for telling me you should rather than your crazy when I told her I was considering this hike, My old boss Juan for the gear upgrades and for being supportive of my decision, Michigan for giving me training grounds that aren’t flat like Illinois.
Lao Tzu said “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” I made camp and will climb Springer mountain before dawn to hopefully catch an epic sunrise and make that first step on the A.T.

Walking in clouds today
This is what happens when people don’t do shakedown hikes. You owe it to nature to be prepared. If you pack it in, pack it out!

Thunderstorms for breakfast. I decided to stop short of my target yesterday with thunderstorms forecast for this morning and I’m glad I did. I took advantage of one of the 3 sided shelter’s sprinkled along the trail.
No Place I’d rather be!
